Health Information

Disclosure of Health issues is so important to our breed.  Due to lack of disclosure we have not been given the tools to make proper informed decisions towards our breeding program.  Have we had health issue, yes we have as has every other Poodle breeder of five years or more. If a breeder does not divulge health issues they are either not testing or not telling you the truth. Every line of Poodles has health issues but many quality breeders work very hard to delete these issues from their lines. There is an online Web Site you can go to and look at the health issues.  Please understand that because a kennel has a health issue does not mean that it is a place you should not go for a puppy,  not all Poodles are affected in any one litter or the Kennel has all unhealthy Poodles. Many of the health issues we experience are able to be bred away from and many breeders are doing this to increase the longevity and health of all Poodles. It is important for all Poodle owners, whether they are breeders or pet people to disclosure and register on this registry, any illnesses your Poodles suffer with. Please, please  disclose.

Poodle Health Registry

The nonprofit PHR is a permanent international open registry for all diseases affecting Poodles, living and dead, of all varieties everywhere in the world. Whether you are a puppy buyer looking for a new Poodle to join your family or a breeder searching for a good match, the PHR will help you make an informed decision.

A healthy Poodle should be a highly intelligent, athletic, and exceedingly good-tempered companion, who excels at any activity it attempts, whether conformation, agility, obedience, field trials, tracking, therapy work, search and rescue, herding, or work as a service dog. As with any breed, there are health problems seen in Poodles of each variety. Some of the diseases seen in Poodles are genetic in origin; some may have a genetic predisposition but may also be influenced by environmental factors; and for others, the cause is currently unknown.

In order to register a dog with the Poodle Health Registry, the diagnosis must be documented by a veterinarian.

The intention of the PHR is to provide these services at no charge to the registrant or to anyone accessing the database. The Poodle Health Registry will depend on donations and fund-raisers to pay the overhead and incidental expenses necessary to the operation of such an organization.
