Parti Poodles Today
So much has changed in the last seven years since I
opened the door to the Partis in the US and other countries. I am not even sure I know where to begin. From
the two breeding lines that were known in 2001 have stemmed some lovely dogs and
some not so lovely. Some have accomplished much and others have had heartbreak. We have
not been immune to the health issues in lines that we introduced to our Partis.
Above all else we have learned much, met some wonderful life long friends and
been successful in many show venues throughout the world.
Parti Poodles are plentiful now and in many, many colours, since UKC’s (United
Kennel Club) inception of them into the conformation ring, there have been many
Champions including several that I have bred. The one thing that appears to have
baffled most is the ability to breed total litters of a colour that they choose, whether it be black and white, brown
and white or Phantom. Even though we have stayed with breeding what we believed,
were of black and white breeding or Phantom breeding many other colours come
through in the breeding. Hopefully other breeders like ourselves will breed for
specific colours.
On January 1st 2004 United Kennel Club (UKC) accepted the Parti Poodles and
adopted a standard for them to show in the conformation ring.

become Champions and Grand Champions. Some have competed in performance classes.
UKC holds an annual Premier show, for the year 2007 four of our home bred
Poodles made it to Top Ten status. We are very proud of the owners that handled
these Poodles to being a Top Ten Poodle in the nation. Our girl Savannah,
Miniature Poodle ranked Best Of Breed for Poodles in 2007, making her number one
in the country. Thank you all for your continued efforts in showing Te-Awa
Poodles.

One of our Partis went to England and made history. Juliet Bumstead owns Te-Awa's Tuxedo Partilicious at Rollaxend" She wrote me this email after showing Shirly in a breed show:
I showed Shirly today at
the Herts and Essex show, I showed her in the standard poodle classes under a
breed judge, Val Beck of Maldavale Poodles. Shirly won the Junior and the
Graduate and went on to win Reserve Best of Breed. I also showed her in the Any
Variety Utility class and she won Junior and then went on to win Best Any
Variety Utility. There were cheers from the ringside, I was very emotional and
so very proud. Shirly is an absolute joy to show and knows what is expected of
her. What a "Star" she is, there is hope for the Partis in the UK.

Shirly is now trying her feet at agility with Juliet helping her. Thanks Juliet, you have way surpassed my expectations with Shirly. I am very proud to be her breeder and very proud you are her owner.
Partis in New Zealand

We sent a Poodle to Anne Bennett in New Zealand and she has starting agility with her. She was the very first Parti Poodle registered in New Zealand although there is controversy over her registration and they are considering removing her from the breeding registry. Dixie had a litter of pups this year to a beautiful New Zealand Champion. We are hoping they have picked up her wonderful intelligence of hunting instinct and her determination. Anne is a very accomplished Agility and other performance event handler, gaining many titles with her other Poodles. Thank you Anne for all you do with Dixie.

I am sure other breeders have accomplishments with their Poodles. At this point the things I would like to see for the Parti Poodles is better health, breeding for true colour and better conformation, type and soundness in temperament. As we move forward with our breeding program we are accomplishing this slowly. We continue to work with the PHR (Poodle Health Registry) for research into better health in our lines. We continue to diverse for better health and strength in genes while breaking down the genes that are detrimental to our Poodles. We keep striving for that true type Poodle by studying the standard of the breed compared to our Poodles.
